Wild West Showdown Preview

Wild West Showdown

Overview | Friday Preview | Saturday Preview | Team Rosters

BREMERTON, WA -- This weekend, Bremerton, WA's Slaughter County Roller Vixens host the largest derby event yet in the Pacific Northwest, the Wild West Showdown. It's similar in structure to Philly's pioneering East Coast Extravaganza annual multi-bout event, as 19 teams will be playing in 21 WFTDA sanctioned bouts on two tracks over the course of three days, with a third track devoted to non-sanctioned challenge bouts between one-off teams.

DNN live coverage of the Wild West Showdown is presented by Fast Girl Skates. Coverage begins at 6pm Pacific time (9pm Eastern) on Friday, February 26.

While the event isn't technically a tournament in the sense that all bouts are standalones, it will feature some very high-level derby, most notably the first action for the 2009 WFTDA champions Oly in 2010. On Friday, undisputed #1 Oly will take on DNN #8 Rose City -- a team they defeated by only 6 points in early 2009 -- and on Saturday they battle East Coast interlopers and DNN #6 Philly, who many considered to have a serious shot at that 2009 championship.

There are also significant battles down the card. Saturday night also features a fourth entry in an increasingly compelling rivalry between #8 Rose City and #15 Bay Area -- Bay Area holds the 2-1 all-time record over Rose, but lost 138-120 the last time they played. On Sunday, #9 Rat City looks for revenge on #6 Philly after Philly handed them the second-most lopsided defeat of their lengthy history at last year's ECE.

Additionally, Sunday sees a first-time meeting between highly-ranked Western powers Rocky Mountain (#5 nationally via DNN, #3 in the West via WFTDA) and Bay Area (#15 nationally via DNN, #6 in the West via WFTDA), and Philly takes on Rose City in a closer that'll be the third bout of an intense weekend for both teams.

AZRD has been playing interleague since 2004

Not to be nitpicky, but AZRD played in the first interleague bout EVER of the new generation of leagues (which was vs Texas Rollergirls in 2004), so that's a fairly notable fact, IMO.

And Sin City pioneered interleague derby play in 2005 by playing nearly every team they could. They were the first team I know of to be inter-league ONLY (though they changed to include home teams in the 3rd season).

GO BOTH TEAMS!!!

Everyone spells my name wrong.....

It's Shadow Soldier. What's a Solider?

euro thrash, AK47.

anyway, i can't wait to play + see some awesome derby this weekend....we're proud to be repping the east as the only non-western team in attendance!

let's just hope the supposed (damned) snow storm doesn't strand us here. like, seriously...more effing snow?!?

Bah snow!

We'll be keeping our fingers and toes crossed for Philly to have flawless travel to WWS We're all doing the anti-snow dance too since Dutchland has our first game of 2010 at Suburbia on Saturday night. 1-2 feet of snow is no match for my 15-passenger van driving skillz!!!

Rayna RAGE (not page) plays

Rayna RAGE (not page) plays for my beloved TCT's.

I'll be there in my heart. I'd love to see the TCT's pick up a couple of victories. They sure could use them. They're capable, and the TCT's are due!

Third Track Coverage?

Will there be any coverage of the challenge bouts/junior derby/men's roller derby?

Hard Cobra!!!!!

Good Luck Hard Cora!
The Angels will be rooting for you!

Rose City

Rose City's games against Oly and Philly were amazing to watch. They are a force rising up this year.
