General Interleague | Local Bouts | Banked Track
General Interleague
SDDD Wild Corps 133, AZRD Bruisers 78 -- This bout between crews from San Diego and Arizona featured nonstandard rosters on both sides. SDDD debuted the Wild Corps, a combination of their flat track all-star travel team the Wildfires and their flat track local B team, the Hard Corps. AZRD sent out the Bruisers, typically one of their local teams, although they share half their roster with the AZRD all-star travel team, the Tent City Terrors. [Rosters for the bout are available on the examiner.com bout preview.]
The score ping-ponged between the two teams for the first few jams. SD’s Kung Pow Tina scored 5 points in the first jam to AZRD’s Rayna Rage’s 0 points to give SD the lead right off the bat. By the third jam AZRD’s Deez Nuts and Gratuitous Violet had scored 10 points gaining the lead for AZRD with a score of 10-8. Kung Pow Tina was back on the line for the Wild Corps, though, and her 9-0 run in the subsequent got the lead back for SD with a 17-10 score -- and that was the last time AZRD was within striking distance. SDDD’s blockers held AZRD’s jammers from scoring for the next 7 jams, and by half time SDDD lead had climbed to 65-30.
SDDD continued to rack up points during the second half while still holding AZRD off from scoring, at one point keeping AZRD off the scoreboard for 6 consecutive jams. While AZRD was eventually able to find a way to manufacture some offense, scoring 48 points during the second half compared to the 30 points they scored during the first, it was too late to close the yawning gap, and SDDD triumphed by 55. -- Kali Katt
