WFTDA Sanctioned Interleague
(23) Brewcity 137, Fort Wayne 35 -- For almost all of the first half, this WFTDA North Central clash looked set to be a defensively-minded nailbiter. A series of very low-scoring jams was broken up by one 10-0 jam for each team, leaving it 14-13 for BrewCity after 8 jams. A 5-0 powerjam from Fort Wayne's Majestic gave the home team their first lead at 18-14 with about 15 minutes left in the first.
The defensive struggle continued over the next five jams, with Brewcity just barely claiming a series of very narrow jam wins -- 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, 4-0, and 4-1-- that got them back in the lead at 28-22 with about 6 minutes to play. But Brewcity nearly doubled their score on the final three jams of the half -- 13-0 to Rhoda Ruin, 4-0 to Carrie A. Hacksaw and 10-0 to Cookie Ciano. Suddenly, the game had gotten away from Fort Wayne and they were looking at a 55-22 deficit at the break.
The story of the second half was twofold -- first, a spectacular debut performance from BrewCity rookie Skittle, who was playing in her very first public bout ever but looked like an old pro as she racked up three huge jams -- 15-0, 10-0 and 20-0. The first two accounted for 25 of Brewcity's 29 points over the opening six jams of the half, helping to close the door on Fort Wayne's hopes.
However, the other part of the story was FWDG helping to close the door on themselves with massive penalty trouble that left them with full boxes and occasional box queues. On one particularly unfortunate sequence that led to Skittle's 15-0, an end of jam penalty pileup left them with three blockers in the box and two on the track, leading to a confused FWDG crew spending more time trying to figure out who was allowed to be on the track than trying to stop Skittle.
In the end, BCB dominated the second half, outscoring Fort Wayne 82-13. Skittle finished the bout with 46 points on 5 jams and a +45 jammer point differential and was named Most Valuable Jammer; Brewcity's Rhoda Ruin backed Skittle up with 30 points on 7 jams and a +26 JPD. Defensively, Servin' Justice, Carrie A. Hacksaw and Anna "Killy" Krajcik were major parts of Brewcity's second-half dominance. Rejected Seoul, historically often used as a jammer, blocked exclusively in this one and was effective enough to claim the Most Valuable Blocker award at the end of the night.
FWDG scoring was led by Majestic, with 14 points on 9 jams but a -25 JPD, while Sweet Avenger came in second in points but first in effectiveness with 10 points on 3 jams and a +10 JPD.

Thanks for coming out.
DNN, thanks for coming out and covering the bout. Y'all are the best., and we're always flattered to have you at our bouts. Looks like the live chat system you used this time wasn't CoveritLive. Do you know if it gets archived somewhere with the justin.tv chat system?

I'm afraid not.
DNN, thanks for coming out and covering the bout. Y'all are the best., and we're always flattered to have you at our bouts. Looks like the live chat system you used this time wasn't CoveritLive. Do you know if it gets archived somewhere with the justin.tv chat system?
Afraid not. It's designed to be a short term chat engine on a video hosting site. It's designed chat that goes "Hey, this video's cool. Yeah, XYZBVDBBQ!" On the upside, it does let us paste in links, and with moderators that's generally more helpful than harmful. People who discover derby through Justin.TV streaming can get pointed to their local league, explanatory videos, or to the rules.
Text cast or video?
Hey, will the text cast or video cast of the BCB v Ft Wayne bout be available in the archive? All I can find is some chat comments left over on the bout page.
Sorry!
That was totally our bad. We actually didn't think we were going to have a onsite textcaster until the very last second when BloodyElle awesomely volunteered, so originally we pasted in the justin.tv window just so people would have a place to interact during the game, and by the time we got Bloody Elle on the job it was very close to game time and I completely forgot that the chat would not archive. I should have switched it to CiL, but just overlooked it in crunch time. Lesson learned...
Dang, I guess I should look up once and a while...
and see what my coach posted...
Ft Wayne, thanks for a tough bout and a great party afterward!
It's always fun to play you ladies!
awesome bout!
I believe there was a typo on Skittles points. It says she scored 36 points but with a 15, 10, 20, and a 1 point jam, she's getting cut 10 points short. ;) She's a good example of being a rookie really means nothing, to be able to come in fresh and come out on top is awesome!
It was nice watching Pushycat jam so quick after her injury in May, I love her sassyness on the track!
If I couldn't see the scoreboard, I honestly would have thought these teams were a lot closer than what the score said. Good hard play, ladies!!
and WOW!!!! I'm so glad you recapped the whole weekend! I heard of the awesome ass kickery by our Warning Belles but being able to see the numbers, standouts, and all of Sandy's knock downs has just put me in complete awe of what they were able to accomplish!!
Yeesh
Yeah, good catch on Skittle's points. I also just noticed that I somehow typo-ed out ALL of the Warning Belles' second-half points. The math, it is hard. Fixed in the article.
Her points are fixed but not
Her points are fixed but not her jammer differential points. Sorry- just making sure she's gettin the credit she deserves! :))
Good Lookin' Out
Thank you :-)
Regarding Skittle...
Is that possibly the same Skittle who briefly played in the Detroit Derby Girls league in 2006? I thought she had moved to Seattle from Detroit back then.
Rusty Wheeler
Skittle
No...she is spanking new to derby and is also a jam skater.
Skittle 2006 = DeeTroit 2010
2006 Skittle from Detroit is DeeTroit (8 Mile) and plays for Rat City (2007-present). And she is one of our most under rated jammers (IMHO).
name change
I just want to make sure. . .she changed her name then right? I had BCB check into it before I picked Skittle as my name and my understanding was that the name was not being used.
clear
yah, you were totally ok with using Skittle, she has been DeeTroit offically for 4 years now
such a cute name, Skittle is

The popular "Eat This, Not That!" series of diet books called Original Fruit Skittles "the worst candy" for your health. I quote: "It's hard to imagine any candy being worse than this. Each colored bead is essentially sugar and corn syrup glued together with hydrogenated palm kernel oil." That's too bad; i'm rather fond of the sour ones. Well, maybe THOSE are good for you. Yes. I'm sure they are. Yes.
Thank you. . .
And thank you for clearing that up.....fwew.

FYI - the Five on Five ad at the top of the page goes to a busted fiveonfive.com website - it should go to fiveonfivemag.com

Not the first time
JFM: "Windy City The Fury 156, Fort Wayne S.W.A.T. Team 51 -- Windy City is one of the most established leagues in modern derby, with their all-stars having made appearances at the last three WFTDA Nationals, but this was the first time one of their four local squads had gone out to rumble with another league."
Actually, this wasn't the first time we've sent home teams out to scrimmage other leagues, technically. It was a first in being a public bout with an audience. However, all four WCR home teams have had full length scrimmages (sans fans/audience) with other near and dear leagues like Brew City Bruisers, Mad Rollin Dolls, and Grand Raggity to name a few, over the past two years.
Fair enough...
...but there's no possible way we can keep track of non-public, non-sanctioned events like closed scrimmages. At a lot of those, nobody even knows for sure what the score was afterwards. Whenever we're talking about past bouting histories between leagues / teams on DNN, we're always referring to public events, unless otherwise specified.
