Results: DNN's Best of 2009 Reader Poll
After a bit of a delay (sorry about that!) DNN is proud to present the winners of the first annual Reader's Poll. In the end we notched 2,905 unique votes, and it turns out that counting 2,905 unique votes isn't quite as easily an automated process as we had hoped.
As we've mentioned elsewhere on the site, we did cull the final spreadsheet for Incredibly Obvious Overvoting, but fortunately there were only a couple of really egregious examples of that, and they only affected the margins for a couple of categories. Next time we're probably going to save ourselves a great deal of headaches by tying the poll to usernames to prevent voting indefinite times ... in retrospect, we should have done that this time, but we were so excited to use a Google doc instead of SurveyMonkey for the billionth time that we failed to adequately consider the consequences.
Since the poll is now down, here are the original nominees for posterity's sake again:

Congrats!
Congrats to all those nominated and to all those awarded "best of" honors. You are truly deserving.
Go Dumpy!
Great showing in a really competitive field, Dumptruck. You rock, my friend.

Holy. Living. Fu....n
I just randomly came to DNN after not having much interweb access these days and read the results. I just scared two little dogs and, quite possibly, my brother's neighbors as I let out a major scream. Ya'll have heard my man voice, whether you or I wanted to(ahem, Nationals *cough*), it's not a pretty thing. Seriously, I cannot say thank you enough, or type enough run on sentances with majorly improper grammer, to let you all know how VERY much I apprecitate such an honor. I'm giddy like you wouldn't even believe. Way to fix my 2009 in a MAJOR MAJOR way DNN familia!
It still blows my mind every time I get an opportunity to talk about derby and others actually, on occassion, want to hear what I have to say, whether it be via text, DNN or a house call. As always, thanks to the viewers(readers) at home for all the support and love. 2009 was a wild ride, for both me AND roller derby, to say the least. Can't WAIT for 2010! Oh and thank you to all of DNN's sponsors, in addition to the viewers/readers, for making DNN possible!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

HOLY SCHNIKES!!!
If anyone deserves it, it's Val.
Like I said on mike at NC Regionals, Val Capone is the greatest roller derby announcer of all time.
I'd like to see what some of the write-ins were for the various categories, if you get a chance to type that up, guys.
OMFG
I'd like to see what some of the write-ins were for the various categories, if you get a chance to type that up, guys.
I repeat: nearly 4,000 spreadsheet entries. I, for one, need to take a break from looking at that beast. Do you have any idea how many different ways the human race can find to spell what is theoretically the same short name? (Answer: at least eight for "Ms. Anthrope the Mordant.")
We did put in everybody who pulled more than 10 votes for the Most Underrated category, but doing that for all the rest of the categories would probably take another week, and people were getting pretty antsy for the results already...
Who's the best Derby News on the web?
You are!! Thanks DNN!!
Now put down that laptop and enjoy some fine holiday celebrating.
Merry Christmas!
I think you woulda had it, but for Montreal.
Their voters wouldn't support an anglophone photographer. It's possible that they just thought they'd be getting an extra vote? Next year, be seen eating pea soup and poutine, OK?
heck ya!
congrats to all the winners and all that were nominated!
val is #1!!!!
...although i did not appreciate georgia w douche comment live on DNN haha
GWT
Holy Crap!
It really feels amazing for people to appreciate you for doing something that is so damn much fun to do. It's a good thing to. The only other thing in derby that I have any skill at is keeping Val Capone's flask full of whiskey.
Derby photography and photographers have come a long way in the 4 years I've been around for. Do yourself a favor and check out EVERYONE in that list.
Thanks to DNN for being here and for all the people who like looking at purty derby pictures!
Congrats!
Congrats, Jules!
With your name in the mix, the race was for 2nd place and I'll be your bitch any day.
Congrats to all the winners and nominees!
yea!
I second that congratulations. Wait, does that mean I'm the bitch for everyone on that list? thank goodness they only put up the top three. ha ha.
Way to go!
Congratulations, Axle & Phil!
I know I got one write-in, but there was no way I was going to top the talent you two brought to the game!
But wait until 2010 ;)
Guess who's getting roasted at next years Nationals.
Val is the Queen!!!!!!!!
How? What? I don't get it.
How is DeRanged not in the top 3 for MVP? Seriously. I totally get a vote for Atomatrix. I'm not arguing with that but it's quite obvious how much of a difference DeRanged makes for her team when you compare Rocky Mountain pre-Deranged, with-DeRanged, and post-DeRanged (Denver #2). Nothing against the rest of the team but I don't think they would have sniffed nationals without her and they definitely wouldn't have made the semis.
YEP!!!
I totally agree... She should have been in the top 3! Her and Atomatrix and Juska!! RMRG TOTALLY different even when the played DRD the second time without her no Win!!
ROCKY MTN. HIGH!!
RMRG rocked it hard in 2009! You girls rocked higher then the ROCKY MTNS. CONGRATS & keep rockin in 2010!
Congrats to everyone!
And thanks to everyone who voted for RMRG's many candidates. Go Whip! And Most Improved, wow!
I even hafta agree on Best Rivalry.
Dangerous
Way to go, doodz
Congratulations to Val, Dumptruck and Pan. You guys are grade A in my book, and I'm glad to see that the larger derby world agrees. All three of you are my homies, too.
Also, big "local pride" props to Phil for the second place win in the photographer category. First place went to Jules, because hell, he's Axle Adams and pretty much the gold standard, always amazing. But Phil is a workhorse, and his shots are such a huge staple of Derby Journalism.
Finally, congrats to ALL the winners.

WHAT??? IT"S AN OUTRAGE I TELL YOU!!!
((additional item of outrage: Apostrophe broken on my keyboard))
Congrats and Merry Christmas
I am doing this in one post.
First to Val who has done a great job and is homey to me in Chicago.
To Jules who shoots to kill every time. Pictures are always quality and awesome.
Also to the other photo peeps and G's. I have to say that I love being in the huddle between bouts as it gives me a chance to get to know them. Uh... Jules I am gonna need to see your flask at the next bout we see each other. Sharing is caring
To all the others who were on that list who were winners and winners. There are no losers in my book.
Ms. Anasia from my home team. Yes she is just that awesome. As well as Ms. Formor. I will miss her on the court. Flying squirrel moves and all.
Finally Merry Christmas, Kwanza, Hanukkah or whatever else you might celebrate. Have a merry something or other.
Cheers
Here some drunk derby people for you all to enjoy.
