CHICAGO, IL -- This Saturday evening will see the only bout between teams headed to WFTDA Nationals before that event takes place in mid-November, as two teams that finished in the final four of the recent Eastern Regionals -- Windy City and Carolina -- face off for the fourth time in their histories, and the third time in 2008.
All three of the previous confrontations between Windy City and Carolina have been on neutral ground, with the Chicago girls holding a 2 games to 1 advantage since their first game in August 2007. Carolina came out on top in a bout played earlier this year in Philadelphia at June's East Coast Extravaganza, while Windy City emerged victorious in the semifinals of both the 2007 and 2008 Eastern Regionals.
Windy City would go on to finish second at this year's Easterns, while Carolina placed fourth; WCR, over the course of this year, have gone 9-3 to Carolina's 5-3.
Throughout 2008, Windy City has established a reputation for being a particularly deadly team at home, swamping their last three home opponents by over 100 points each at their old Cicero Stadium. This match marks Windy City's debut at their new digs, the UIC Pavilion -- Chicago fans (and, no doubt, future WCR opponents) will be particularly curious to see if their remarkable dominance at home continues after the move.
Still missing from the Carolina all-star roster after a shoulder injury suffered at Regionals will be the multitalented Roxy Rockett, which will deny Carolina an extremely effective jammer and likely weaken them in the pack as well; also not making the trip for this one are mainstays Shirley Temper, Zella Lugosi and Ms. Anthrope the Mordant. With Shirley and Zella also two of the primary jammer weapons available to Carolina, this version of their all-star lineup will likely have to rely heavily on Holly Wanna CrackYa, Princess America and MC Fyte to take the jam star.
On the Chicago side, Windy City's Shocka Conduit, a big point-scorer over the course of Eastern Regionals, won't be suiting up for the home crew, though they've got an exceptionally deep bench of swift, experienced jammers to fill that gap for them.
This bout is not officially WFTDA sanctioned for ranking purposes, occurring as it does between two major tournaments.

I didn't realize bouts
I didn't realize bouts between tournaments weren't sanctioned. I'd be curious to know more about that...

Sorry, poorly phrased on my part
The bout is not sanctioned, but that does not mean that any bouts occurring between tournaments are not sanctioned. What I was trying to get at was that sanctioning this particular bout for rankings may not have been worth the time, since it falls dead between extremely high-profile events that will have a much more significant effect on rankings perceptions of the teams.
That being said, I do not know if that it is the particular reason this bout is not sanctioned.

I could be mistaken, but
I believe in this case the bout was not sanctioned because CRG was fielding a short bench, and it also gave WCR an opportunity to play some of our girls who are just entering our charter for the All-Stars. Peg Legs, Helsa Wayton, and Wreck 'N Shrew are joining our charter, and we couldn't be more excited about them!

You are absolutely right
Let's face it ... bouts between teams like these two don't really matter for rankings (that's what Nationals is for), so having it sanctioned imposes unnecessary and arbitrary limits on both leagues.
It's an artifact of the 3-month set roster now active in the WFTDA ... more leagues are playing unsanctioned games.
In fact, I'd expect to see more of it in the future as long as that 3-month roster-lock is in place. Madison is coming to Carolina in December ... and asked if it could be non-sanctioned due to travel issues, etc.
Howdy to Wreck!
Just wanna say hi to Wreck 'n Shrew--she's a former Detroit Derby Girl.
Is that score from this game I saw correct? Windy City over Carolina 191-16? Holy kiszka!

He's still working on getting the audio up so it may be going on and off but he hopes to have it broadcasting soon.
New venue
I caught the first 20 minutes or so of the bout on the stream and I just gotta say that the new WCR home is pretty awesome. The girls' names up on the giant scrolling lightboard was just about the sexiest thing I've ever seen, bout-production-wise.
new Venue
Hey Thanks gnosis, for the big ups about the new venue!!! I know all of us players were so surprised and excited to see the whole production in action. Man do we have some great volunteers!!!!!
So glad to hear appreciation for the new spot! some people seem to be all nostaligic for the non air-conditioned sweaty stinky old Cicero all of a sudden.
