NEW YORK, NY -- For the second year in a row, the Gotham local season concludes with a grudge match between the Queens of Pain -- champions of the 2005 and 2006 Gotham seasons -- and their rivals the Bronx Gridlock, who became 2007 champs by knocking off Queens in their attempt to three-peat.
This is the fifth bout in the three-year Bronx-Queens rivalry, and although the Bronx currently enjoys a 3-1all-time advantage on Queens, each and every match of the series has been a closely contested nailbiter -- in October 2006, Queens was victorious 75-74, June 2007 saw Bronx win out 118-107, November's 2007 championship bout saw a 95-90 victory for Bronx again, and finally, most recently, Queens came one point closer but still lost in a 90-86 August contest.
Plenty of members of Gotham's best-in-the-east all-star team will be on the track for this one -- 13 all told, if one includes the currently injured Bronx jammer Beatrix Slaughter, still recovering from a broken collarbone suffered in the August Bronx / Queens contest.
If the currently 3-0 Bronx can take the victory here, it'll mark their second undefeated home season in a row -- while Queens can get long-delayed revenge for multiple nailbiting disappointments with a win of their own.

SOLD OUT
If you're coming to town for this bout, you'd better have a ticket already because this sucker is SOLD OUT.
Also, Bon-Bon Scott, Boxcar Bethany, and OMG WTF from Montreal Roller Derby are shipping down from Quebec to lead the after party at Manitoba's. They must be on a brand new after party mission, as it's hard to imagine them having any unfinished business left over from September??
Jon Stewart
Awesome. Did y'all manage to comp Jon Stewart a VIP seat so he can see that derby isn't just for "real America"?
Wearing the crown...
I'll attempt to be an impartial *queens* derby supporter and wish the skaters *queens* of both teams the best of *queens* luck, and an excellent bout.

thanks from the Queenies!!!
And yes, I think Montreal have amassed enough points that no one can catch them for the 2008 after-party championship. Even in small numbers they're pretty untouchable.
