TUCSON, AZ -- In the final weekend before the Western Regional tournament, Tucson's 13th-ranked Saddletramps have one more chance to prove themselves against top-ten competition as they take on visiting #8 Philly. It's the first-ever meeting between these two teams.
Tucson could particularly benefit from a win here for confidence and momentum, as their regional tournament begins just six days after this bout. Although Tucson's most recent bout was a big 144-51 win over #22 Dominion, that game stands as the only bright spot in a punishing 2008. They'd lost six straight going into that Dominion game, and have been kept to remarkably low point totals when facing top-ten teams -- 96-39 against Bay Area, 138-19 against Windy City, 135-38 against Gotham and 80-41 against Carolina.
That being said, the Carolina bout (which took place on the same weekend as the Dominion game) was significantly closer than the big losses Tucson absorbed during mid-summer, and it so happens that Philly's most recent opponent was also Carolina. Philly lost that bout by 21 points, 107-86.
Other than that Carolina bout and a serious 145-47 trouncing at the hands of Gotham to open their 2008 play in April, Philly has had a good run of it this year, with a couple of particularly impressive victories against #7 Windy City (92-76) and #10 Rose City (104-87.) Their performance has lifted them past Detroit in the WFTDA rankings, giving them a critical bye in their upcoming Eastern Regional tournament.
Tucson will face Dallas next Friday in the opening round of Western Regionals, with the winner of that game getting a shot at Nationals by facing Rat City.

Tara Newone?
We've had a Terra Nuone on our roster for four years! Where'd the doppelganger come from?

It appears
That Tara Newone is registered on twoevils. Terra Nuone is not. If it ain't registered, it don't exist!
Just saying.

Terra uses an umlaut over the U in NuOne so the site seems to mess with her name a little bit. But it's been on the roster for years.

Good Luck, Tramps!
Give 'em hell.
TRD really needs this one.
TRD really needs this one. The win over Dominion has definitely charged up the spirits here in Arizona but a win against Philly would be awesome. Wish I could make it, but I have to work that night.
No boutcast? Oh well.. Tucson is really good about communicating their results.
So I will say GO TRAMPS!!

Do you realize that since
Do you realize that since way back in January 07 Phearsome Philly have lost to only 2 teams?? Yep. The Mighty Goths and Carolina have been the only teams to get past those incredibly consistent Rollergirls out in the City of Sisterly Love. I thought that surely Philly would slip up somewhere. But hell no-they are still finding ways to win and scrappin' with the best of 'em. There is now no doubt about it-Philly are badasses. Tuscon on the other hand...wellllll...not so much. They too have gone down to the Goths and Carolina but have also had a very rough stretch of losses until they finally got a victory against Dominion. Admittedly they lost to some upper-tier teams. Try Windy, Pikes Peak, B.A.D. and TX on for size. There is no way I dont put my cash on Philly. No freaking way.
Didja hear that at halftime Robin Drugstores and Shenita Stretcher are gonna battle Knocka Ho Down and Two-Bit Ore for the WFTDA funniest names Championship?? It'll be CLASSIC. I'm not making this up.
Thanks, Feelgood!
Appreciate you doing my homework for me... I'll put some updates on here as soon as I'm able. So far, PRG's just enjoying this rainy rainy Tucson weather and stolen Motel 8 wifi.
scores thing
Say, if you're aiming to do the regular score updates as you've had done on Philly games lately, can you do it by way of regular edits to a single comment, rather than a big pile of comments? Thanks in advance!
Updating scores in comments
I think that was a benefit of the kick-ass wifi in Philly's Sportsplex, not sure if Bladeworld has a similar hookup.
But that being said... when doing this kind of thing, it would also be good to edit the score in the subject line. Since the most recently edited comment is always at the top of the "discussion" sidebar on the front page, it'll end up effectively being a semi-live update.

Thanks for the encouragement and shout outs there, Eli Wallop and Michi-Chan. Saddletramps are working hard to turn things around and it's good to know your rooting for us.
Sadly, Bladeworld does not have Wi-Fi, but I'm sure someone, somewhere will get the beta to you folks!
Yea!!! So excited to skate against the Liberty Belles!

Thanks Helen Wheels!!!
Thanks Helen Wheels!!! We're definitely rooting for you all. The TRD webmaster is REALLY GOOD about posting scores right after the bout (and sometimes during the bout).. hopefully we will know the score by the time I get home.
I had heard about two Saddletramps who may be skating injured tonight. Hopefully, they will pull through and will be out in full force tonight.

Philly Roller Girls
go PRG Liberty Belles! I had
go PRG Liberty Belles!
I had the opportunity to skate a few practices with TRD when the PRG was just getting started, back in the winter of 2006. Those ladies really have a great organization and I really learned a lot back then. But derby is changing so quickly - from new rules coming out every few months to get familiar with to new leagues determined to get some blood and move up in the rankings. Although they have recently in the past 2 seasons lost a lot of big names, from FistiCuffs to BolsheVixen, and even the loss of Dirty Teri on the Saddletramps, I'm sure Tucson is using this time as a way to train their less experienced skaters to become more familiar with interleague bouting and revamp their training for future seasons.
As for predictions on Philly, go ahead and keep underrating us. The Philly Roller Girls practice hard and keep improving steadily. We'd rather be an underdog team that wins consistently and does not disappoint, than overranked and disappointing to watch.
