SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. A city of sin and a city half-filled with (Latter Day) Saints. Las Vegas is a city where Jello is mostly used for shots, and often body shots from a dancer's navel, at that. Salt Lake City is a town where Jello is very serious business indeed. Where the happiness of a home can often be measured by the number of Jello molds in the pantry. A city where the bars never close, and a city where bars are technically illegal.
You won't find another such clash of polar opposites in culture, unless Gotham faces Boston at Eastern Regionals. One is a little bit country, the other a little bit rock'n'roll. These two leagues are almost as close as Donnie and Marie, without the perfect teeth. While the skaters have faced off in several mixed-team scrimmages in Las Vegas (many Salt City skaters have family there) this is the first time they've faced of against each other. They know each other VERY WELL, considering this is their first interleague bout.
The Fabulous Sin City Rollergirls make their long-awaited return to interleague bouting after a season break and their first home season ever. After a rocky winless third season of travel team bouts, the league decided it needed to expand in order to remain competitive. After an expansion, intraleague bouts and a move to a larger venue, they've re-christened their travel team after the league's new name and are taking their show on the road (sans clubs and tiger skins).
The Salt City Shakers are coming off a lopsided 194-41 loss against Pikes Peak Derby Dames and a win against Nevada's other flat track derby league, the non-WFTDA Battle Born Derby Demons. Their travel team has previously bouted Angel City Derby Girls and are hoping to chalk up their first WFTDA-sanctioned victory.
The Salt City Derby Girls have also found themselves a new venue, moving from the Olympic Oval* to the Salt Palace Convention Center. The bout is happening on Saturday, Ocotober 4th. The after-party (are those legal in Utah?) will fittingly be held at Saints and Sinners (a private club for members).
* Trivia question: What other Olympic venue later hosted roller derby?

Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles
Would the trivia question's answer be the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles? I know I used to watch a lot of televised derby games from there years ago. I even got to see the outside (front) of it in the Charlie's Angels TV show "Angels on Skates" where they dealt with roller derby.

Yup. You win a brewski. Are there any more? I'm curious.
Glad I didn't have to mention that it was a legendary punk venue (pretty much Goldenvoice shows) back in the 80s. The official name was the Grand Olympic Auditorium. Now it apparently is a Korean-American megachurch.
The T-Birds used to skate there. Our pal Frankie was just telling me how many seats it had. It was actually used in the 1932 summer games.

I have never seen either
I have never seen either team play. I dont know squat about either teams skaters. Hell, I'm lucky to actually have rosters now on both of these teams. Sin City has more overall experience but Salt has more recent experience. Ya want something in common with both of these teams? Well...they BOTH lost to Duke City. But ya know what? I'm a gamblin' man and the gamblin' man would always take Vegas over Salt Lake City. And so I do. Sin over Salt in what should be a very, very tight bout. Didja hear that Poobah?? Yeah, I'm takin' yer team man. Sin will win.
You know a bit more than squat...
I thought you were a Brew City Bruisers fan? Bootsi started off here, then moved there for a season or two to skate with the Shevil Knevils. She's been back a few months.

Salt City Wins 73 to 46
Salt City (73) vs. Sin City (46)
Salt it is... This was an amazing bout, Big thanks to Sin City for coming out. Skid, Bruce Killis, Alma Bichess, Bootsi call... all great players as well as everyone else. We owe part of our win to this team. Vegas is so close, we have gone out several times for picnic scrimmages to learn and train from them. They have been a huge key in our progress.
Thanks again Sin City. I love this game.

Ya know, it's funny you
Ya know, it's funny you should mention Bootsi because I just found out that she was back in Vegas about a week ago!
Wasatch Brews
someone have a polygamy porter for me ('why have just one?'). Utah may have an abundance of tee-totalers, but the fringe still know how to brew good beer.
i don't think she's on the SLC league, but isn't there a Stormin' Mormon skating somewhere?
Stormin' Mormon
Yep, from Charm City. We were all very pleased when she announced her derby name :)

We don't quite know yet.
The bout is next Saturday, October 4th. I probably should've found a place to put that somewhere up top in the preview.
