PORTLAND, ME — The cheekily named New Skids on the Block, the all-star crew from Quebec, will poke a toe over the border in traveling to Maine this Saturday, looking to continue their three game winning streak. Both teams have won their last few games, though Maine has not seen interleague action since May.
Maine has steadily improved and will be looking for their fourth win on Saturday. The Port Authorities kicked off their season with a 30 minute exhibition bout in March against the 14th ranked Boston Massacre. Maine managed to hold a 14-11 lead after the first three jams and continued their impressive play all the way to the final whistle ending with a final score of 81-31 in favor of the Massacre.
Just one month later, an unranked Maine upset the then 14th ranked Providence in a 75-64 nail-bitter, taking the lead in the 3rd jam and holding it for the entire bout. It was Maine's first regulation bout against a WFTDA team, and Providence became the highest-ranked team ever to fall to an unranked team. Maine’s winning streaked carried into May, with a win over 34th ranked Connecticut (87-39).
Both Maine and Montreal have recently walked away with significant victories over the Long Island Roller Rebels. Maine played Long Island in May resulting in a score of 208-22 in favor of the Port Authorities. Three months later, Montreal had a similarly impressive showing, defeating Long Island 165-75. They've also taken out non-WFTDA leagues Hammer City (58-48) and San Diego (101-30). In fact, Montreal has not lost a game since April, when they fell to non-WFTDA Dutchland Rollers (149-56).
The girls from Portland will be relying on an increasingly strong defense-oriented game with heavy hitters like Punchy O’Guts, Mom Bomb and Breezey. However, with jamming sensations Olive Spankins and Killer Quick, Montreal is going to have to work equally as hard to contain the Port Authorities’ offense. This will be no cake walk for Maine either. With stalwart jammer Iron Wench and crowd favorite Georgia W. Tush, the Port Authorities will need to maintain strong teamwork and a tough defense.
Both teams will be skating short-handed, each with 11 skaters. Maine has become accustomed to playing short-handed and their smaller roster will likely not be a factor in their game play, but it is unclear if a smaller roster will affect Montreal. This is sure to be an exciting game with both strong offensive and defensive play.
The Maine Port Authorities will next take on Pennsylvania’s Coal City Rollers at home in Portland on October 11th. Montreal doesn’t currently have any other upcoming games listed.
*Side note: This weekend also marks Georgia W. Tush’s birthday, a ironclad guarantee that the afterparty will be off the hook. Look for her busting a move on the multi-colored light-up dance floor.

Oh I really hope I can go.
Oh I really hope I can go. I love MTL. Maine too, but I have a soft spot for all things canadian.

I'm predicting...
Montreal by 20. But I have an obvious bias, since Boxcar Bethy is my twinny sis.
I think DayGlo is right that Montreal is the favorite for an afterparty win. Those skidz can dance! Plus, my mom will be there.
The after party
Montreal may win the after party, but Punchy O'Guts always wins with after-after party...

Bouts like this are hard to call.
MTLRD seem to have the (arguably) strongest team in Canada, but Maine is one of the up-and-comers in WFTDA. I put them in my "teams to watch."

Yeah...and when ya win
Yeah...and when ya win straight outta the starting gate against Prov and Connecticut thats gonna build confidence. I would totally agree with putting Maine on the "teams to watch" list. They're looking pretty damn good so far. I need to look into who they have coming up because its gonna be interesting.

great job maine!
Maine will play
...Connecticut again (in CT) in December (as a trade for them coming to Maine this past Spring) and will play our big sisters in Boston(Massacre) in February. Beyond that we are currently trying to book WFTDA bouts for 09!
P.S. We now understand why Montreal is notorious and so loved by everyone who meets them. What an awesome group!!! And they definitely gave us a run for our money at the afterparty!
maine rocks!
man, maine is a team to watch out for this year!!! they kicked our quebecois behinds with some hard hits, strong defense and fast jamming. i am felling very sore today and may have another (minor) black eye to prove their radness (yes, that's a word). thanks for inviting us maine, and being one of the hardest and skilled teams we've played yet.
i also have to give mtl some credit, we had a major comeback in the second half after we managed to only score 15 points in the first half. thank baby jesus for the iron wench who probably scored about 53 of those 59 points!
gw tush
p.s. who do i call do get one of those amazing disco floors that your after party bar has?
Comeback Skidz
i also have to give mtl some credit, we had a major comeback in the second half after we managed to only score 15 points in the first half.
ABSOLUTELY! You definitely came back in the second half! The second half is also when one of you gals broke my hip (not REALLY broken) by sending me crashing to the floor. It's going to be a rough few days for my ass! You girls are amazing--both on and off the track. So tough and so much fun to party with! Thanks for making the trek!
xoxoxo
Yessss
Amen to all that for sure. Big, BIG love to Montreal. What a great crew in every way. I even have a bruised cheekbone from the afterparty dance-off to match Georgia's black eye!

So proud...
After watching Saturday's game, I have to say that I am so proud of Maine. They have stepped up in every way and it was evidenced in their victory this weekend. The improvement in their team communication and strategy is unbelievable, especially since our Expo game with them in February.
This team should def. be on your "too watch list", as I know that they are on mine. I know that Boston Massacre is psyched to play our sisters to the North this coming Feb.
