Charm City Intraleague Recap: Junkyard Dolls 94, Speed Regime 54

BALTIMORE, MD -- Proving that their turnaround from their first two years is nearly complete, the Junkyard Dolls handily defeated a shorthanded Speed Regime for the first time in their six meetings, getting revenge for many previous thumpings with a 94-54 blowout.

While there were some pre-season questions about whether the loss of the league's highest-scoring jammer from last year, Cherrylicious, would hamper the Dolls' chances, it appears that the Doll jammer corps may currently be the league's most well-rounded -- Dolly Rocket, Flo Shizzle, Killer Kitten and rookie Ella Fitz-peril consistently took the upper hand on the Regime pack, controlling the lead jammer battle for almost all of the first half. The Regime was clearly missing key blocker Holly Go Hardly, who chose to stay off the roster as a game-time decision to save her troublesome knees for this weekend's East Coast Extravaganza.

The Regime enjoyed a lead for exactly one jam, with their jammer Stormin' Mormon getting a 4-0 over Flo Shizzle to start the bout, but from then on the Dolls took the driver's seat. Dolly Rocket dropped a 10-0 spot on the following jam, and a couple of jams later hit Bambi's Revenge with a 15-0 that moved the score to 25-8 for the Dolls.

Jam 5 saw the Speed Regime show a spark as blocker Stormin' Mormon held back the Dolls' Coach Ballbricker in Ballbricker's only jam of the night, allowing Regime jammer Pistol Whip to score a 9-2 -- but Killer Kitten put an end to all that momentum with a 10-0 over Mormon, who had trouble getting beyond Dolls blocker Shevil Knievel.

With the score 37-17 about halfway through the opening 20 minutes, the Dolls managed to snag lead jammer on six jams in a row, and ended the half on a 19-0 run that left the Regime at a significant disadvantage at the break, 63-23.

There was no comeback in the offing for Speed Regime, who spent almost the entire second half working to whittle the 40-point Dolls lead down to 30 at 79-49, only to see all of their work disappear with a late-game 10-0 for Flo Shizzle over Loretta Scars. The last two jams would be 5-0 trades, and the Regime tasted only their second blowout defeat in their history, falling to the Dolls 94-54.

Stats

Dolly Rocket was once again a big factor on both the jam line and in the pack, only donning the jammer star four times but picking up 33 points and a massive +31 point differential. Killer Kitten followed up with 25 points on 6 jams and a +4 differential, while Flo Shizzle had 21 points on 7 jams and a +14. Ella Fitz-peril contributed 13 points on 5 jams with a -1 JPD, and Coach Ballbricker, in her single jam, had 2 points and a -7 point differential.

The Speed Regime seems to be still trying to figure out how to best utilize their less experienced roster -- they gave the star to 8 of their 10 players over the course of the bout, but nobody seemed to have any significant success solving the Dolls defense. Bambi's Revenge continued a breakout rookie season by leading the team with 15 points on 7 jams, but pulled a -19 jammer point differential. Sisters Buzz Kill and Pistol Whip were just behind with 13 points each; Pistol Whip did it on 3 jams with +11 differential, while Buzz got her points on 2 jams and put up a +5 differential.

Those numbers comprised almost all the Regime offense, though -- Stormin' Mormon was held to 9 points on 5 jams with a -16 differential, while team captain Reckless Ndangerment got 4 points and an even differential on her single jam of the night. Deathany, (1 jam, -9 JPD), Hedda Chopper (1 jam, -2 JPD), and Loretta Scars (2 jams, -10 JPD) all came away with no points.

The Dolls, now on a four-game intraleague win streak including the last two bouts of the 2007 season, will set their sights on the 2-0 Mobtown Mods on July 26, while the Regime faces their familiar nemeses the Night Terrors, with the loser looking at a very unfamiliar 0-3 record.

correction

The statement "The Dolls, now on a four-game win streak including the last two bouts of the 2007 season" is incorrect - We lost to the Heavy Metal Hookers in Philly over the winter...

Nice new site, BTW!

oops

Changed to "four-game intraleague win streak" -- thanks for the catch.
