WFTDA Bout Preview: (u) Pikes Peak @ (u) Sacred City
Sacred City Derby Girls of the Sacramento area in California will have their first WFTDA sanctioned bout Saturday February 16th against the Pikes Peak Derby Dames of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The game will be held at Roller King, 889 Riverside Ave. Roseville, CA. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door, kids under 6 free, doors open at 7pm.
Sacred City was formed in September of 2006 and played in their first bout March 17th 2007 against the Bakersfield Rollergirls, winning the game 117 to 58. More recently Sacred City won an October 27th bout against the Jet City Roller Girls 146 to 55 and took down Los Angeles' Angel City Derby Girls 97 to 66 on September 15th. In fact, Sacred City won all of their first season's bouts, losing only to Rat City's Rain of Terror 112 to 62. At the end of September 2007 Sacred City was the 48th league to be admitted to the WFTDA.
Sacred City has no injuries, but Brawllen Angel, one of Sacred City's famed jamming trio (Candy Crusher, Brawllen Angel and Orange Crush) will not be skating because of an eligibility issue. On the other hand, this will be Gangstalicious' first bout.
Pikes Peak has retooled a bit from last year's short and not-so-sweet Dust Devil appearance -- they were sunk in the first round by Bay Area in a 198-15 blowout. That was part of a rough 2007 for PPDD -- they lost all five of their bouts last year -- but things may be looking up after a 117-97 victory over 20th-ranked Houston last weekend.
Veterans include Count Smacula, The Swiss Missile, Susie QT, Slugs-N-Kisses, Rolleene Thunda, Barilyn Monroe, Kamilla Blood Spilla, and Snow White Trash, while new members feature Cat Black n' Ballou, De Ranged, Hang-em High HELLen, Pepper Slay, Psycho Babble, and Tara ToPieces.
