DC Intraleague Recap: DC Demoncats 62, Secretaries of Hate 47

WASHINGTON, DC — In the first bout of the DC Rollergirls’ home season opener, last season’s last-place Secretaries of Hate came tantalizingly close to their first-ever victory, but in the end were denied by the DC Demoncats, who were victorious by a final of 62-47.
The first half of the 40 minute bout was a tight one, with neither team able to secure a significant lead. After the first jam went 4-4 as the Demoncats’ Camilla the Hun went up against the Haters’ Goldrush, the lead would change hands on jams 2, 3, 5 and 7, leaving the Haters defending a small 18-15 advantage about halfway through the period. The low score was mostly the result of lead jammers cutting things off early — throughout the first half, no jammer made more than a single scoring pass.
Jam 10 was where the Demoncats would make their move — Demoncat jammer Camilla the Hun followed some powerful blocking from Hooah!Girl and ShREDica to get a 4-1 win over Free Radical and tie the game up at 23. The period ended on two more victories for the Demoncats — a 4-2 for Camilla the Hun over Lois Slain and a 4-0 for Blonde Fury over Free Radical — that gave the Demoncats a 31-25 lead at the half.
The Haters would be undone by a slow start in the second half, shut out for the first four jams while the Demoncats threw 12 points up on the board — most of them coming in the biggest jam of the night, a 9-0 for Rage B4 Beauty that pushed the score to Demoncats 43, Secretaries 25.
With about 7 minutes to play, the Demoncats had opened up an imposing 59-36 lead — but then gave the Secretaries a golden opportunity when Demoncat jammer Camilla the Hun failed to reach the jammer line before the opening whistle blew. That gave Goldrush a full 2 minutes to work unopposed — but the Demoncat pack of ShREDica, Mel on Wheels, Rage B4 Beauty and Velvet Landmine was up to the challenge, killing the threat by holding Goldrush to just 3 points. The Haters would win the last two jams of the bout, but the Demoncat lead had gotten too big, and the Haters would have to wait for another shot at their first win as the game ended Demoncats 62, Secretaries 47.
Camilla the Hun led the scoring for the Demoncats with 22 points on 10 jams, though she ended with a negative jammer point differential at -2. Rage B4 Beauty had the best jammer point differential with a +13, picking up 18 points on 4 jams. Blonde Fury (14 points on 7 jams, +2 JPD) and Hooah!Girl (8 points on 3 jams, +5 JPD) rounded out the scoring for the Demoncats.
The Secretaries also put up a four-jammer rotation, with team co-captain Goldrush leading her team with 19 points on 7 jams and the Haters’ only positive jammer point differential at +7. Free Radical (13 points on 8 jams, -11 JPD), Lois Slain (11 points on 8 jams, -11 JPD), and Toxic Waif (4 points on 2 jams, even JPD) also took the jammer star for the Haters.
The DC Rollergirls next hit the track on March 22nd, with Scare Force One taking on the DC Demoncats and the Cherry Blossom Bombshells battling the Secretaries of Hate.
