The New Jersey Dirty Dames Hub City Hellrazors drank champagne from the Jersey Cup Championship Trophy after rolling over the Garden State Rollergirls Iron Bound Maidens 118 to 69. The Maidens fought a hard battle against their archenemies but penalty trouble would stymie their attempts to retake an early lead and doom a late game comeback.
Jenna Von Fury (GSR) and A-Bomb (NJDD), both co-captains and star jammers, took the starting position for Jam 1. The Jersey crowd, split cheering for each team, fell hushed in suspense. After the whistle, A-Bomb sprinted through the pack to pick up lead but got trapped by a wall of Garden State Blockers. Von Fury, blocked by pivot Fender SmackHerFaster (NJDD), seized an opportunity to escape and smashed through the pack for 4 points. A-Bomb, still unable to breakaway from the re-engaging pack, eventually called it off but not before Von Fury had scored another 3 points to win the jam 7-4.
Garden State held its lead after Bam Bam Bone-z (GSR) and Carmen Monoxide (NJDD) tied a fiercely fought 4-4 jam. A-bomb returned to the line in Jam 3 to take on GSR Captain Lady Vengeance. Though Vengeance was hot on her heels, A-Bomb raced through for the lead and a 4-0 triumph.
Vengeance’s penalties caught up with her and she was forced to start the next jam in the box. Carmen, unopposed, was confronted with a relentless Garden State pack, which held her until Slam N Legs (GSR) was called out for a major blocking out of play (past 20 feet) penalty. Carmen capitalized on the power play 4-0. The intensity skyrocketed in the next jam as the Dirty Dames and Garden State traded control of the front of the pack with malicious walls of blockers throwing merciless hits. NJDD Blocker Elle Toro managed a massive takeout of jammer Betty Brawl (GSR) to give A-Bomb a 4-1 victory.
Von Fury smoked Big Bad Wolfe (NJDD) off the line as Jam 6 started. Though Wolfe gained ground, Lady Vengeance and Kelly Kut Throat (GSR) killed her chances of ever breaking out of the pack. Von Fury’s 7-0 run almost closed the gap but Garden State still trailed, 18-20.
The Dirty Dames answered this with a 30-2 run in the next seven jams. Aided by solid pivot play by Bone Crawford, jammers Carmen, A-bomb, and Fender completed three 4-0 jams in a row. Another 6-0 and 4-0 capped off a commanding performance by the Dirty Dames, which was highlighted by their seemingly infallible ability to get lead jammer, pulling it in 14 of 16 jams in period 1). The streak put the lead solidly in the Dirty Dames’ hands, 50-20.
A strange mixup in jam 12 would also prove costly for Garden State. After obtaining a rare lead jammer status, Von Fury was put in the box even as she vociferously insisted that she had called it off prior to be being dismissed for penalties. Meanwhile, as another skater was being whistled off for a major, NJDD jammer A-bomb mistook the numerous tweets to mean the jam was over and skated off the track prematurely. Seeing no jammer on the track, the refs called off the 0-0 jam. A lengthy official meeting took place as head referee AcuPunchHer Needles sought swift order. Without warning, jam 13 began. The Dirty Dames had a full team lined up while Garden State had only 1 blocker, Layla Smackdown, on the track when the whistle blew. Layla’s one woman struggle against four was valiant indeed but not enough to stop Carmen from racking up an 8-0. Lady Vengeance petitioned Needles to invalidate the jam but Needles refused, citing it was the skaters’ responsibility to be on the track and ready.
Von Fury’s retribution was a grand slam 5-0 over Wolfe in the next jam. Betty Brawl looked to continue a GSR comeback but was called out for a major tripping penalty after colliding with opposing jammer A-Bomb. At the end of the first period, the Dirty Dames had the lead 57-29.
At half time, Bam Bam and Kelly Cut Throat were engaged to be derby wives, but the love quickly left the building as the second period started. Von Fury out-maneuvered A-Bomb through the pack to come around for a 4 point pass. Textbook blocking by Vengeance and Cut Throat defused A-Bomb and held her to just 3.
Garden State would manage to keep it a close second period as body-sacrificing critical hits kept skaters on the floor and the referees very busy. In Jam 7 of the second period, Bone Saw (GSR) annihilated jammer Carmen with an illegal major elbow to give Betty Brawl the lead. Carmen would be sent to the box soon after and, grabbing onto a change of momentum, Betty burst forth with a game high 13-0 jam.
The Dirty Dames killed their penalties by the skin of their teeth as Carmen came out of the box for a 4-2 jam over Bam Bam. A-Bomb and Von Fury met yet again in the next jam as skaters continued to rack up majors for illegally initiating blocks with no skates on the floor. Von Fury and A-Bomb struggled their way to 20 feet in front of the pack but Von Fury was sent to the box once more. As A-Bomb turned her attention to the refs and spread her arms to ask for 20 foot pentaly call, she was put on her back by a brutal Layla Smackdown hit. A-Bomb had the last laugh as she exploded for a 10-0 jam.

The victorious New Jersey Dirty Dames celebrate the first awarding of the Jersey Cup.
The Dirty Dames retaliatory hits gained them the upper hand in the second period but, once all the penalties caught up with them, the game itself was put into an odd position. In Jam 13, Jenna Jamitin (GSR) destroyed NJDD jammer Wolfe and the Dirty Dames’ blockers took it personally. Wild hits abounded as GSR jammer Betty Brawl snuck by with a 4-0 jam, called it off, and watched as the last two Hub City blockers, which were holding arms in an attempt to clothesline her, were sent off the track.
Playing by WFTDA 2.1 rules but with no cap on the amount of players in the penalty box, the Dirty Dames’ started the next jam with zero blockers. The crowd went ballistic as A-Bomb lined up alone to take on not only the 4 Garden State Blockers but also Garden State jammer Jenna Von Fury. The bizarre situation lead to an ad hoc rules announcement: due to a lack of any opposing skaters, the four garden state blockers were not a pack and, therefore, not allowed to engage or assist. No one knew what to expect as the whistle sounded and the Garden State blockers started sprinting. The second whistle sounded to start a tussle between A-Bomb and Von Fury. The jammers pounded one another until, finally, A-Bomb caught up to the speedy blockers and made it through them first. Almost at the exact same moment, a NJDD blocker had emerged from the penalty box, caught up with GSR blockers, and restored the identity of the pack. A-Bomb sailed around again, clawed through the proper pack, and was awarded lead jammer status. The jam then finally ended 0-0. Despite losing all their blockers, the Dirty Dames had effectively burned 2 minutes off the period clock to maintain their 35 point lead.
The cross state rivals continued to exchange devastating blows until the final whistle. In the second to last jam, jammer Jenna Von Fury took out opposing jammer Carmen Monoxide but was sent to the box for the third time. Carmen recovered and sealed the Hub City Hellrazors’ historic victory with an 8-0 jam. Chapter one of the most heated New Jersey rivalry ended with the Dirty Dames earning all the bragging rights for 2007 after pulling off a 118 to 69 victory over the Garden State Rollergirls.
